Musical surroundings

A few years ago, I was a bassplayer in a punkband. I was horrible at it, so when I was kicked out of the band, I only shed some tears because of my hurt ego...

Instruments look like cool accessoires, I pretend that I would know what to do with them.

These photo's are taken at Dijkmans muziek, in Breda. Two years ago I did a mural painting there, and also painted the counters. Last year, my boyfriend A. made this incredibly cool cabinet, from glass, steel and dirty-looking wood. It locks away a special 1955 Gibson JP Standerd Gold Top. (I just like the shinyness of it..)

Really love the bold and colorful ones!

One of the counters I did.

A cabinet full of colorfull boxes. Ha, just wish I just knew what they all did..

The mural painting in front of the store. It's huuuuge!

The other counter I did.

More of the colorful musical thingy's

The whole cabinet. First picture (at the top) has guitars hanging on a metal and dirty-looking wood wall. That's also made by my A. Isn't he just wonderful... :D

Groens

Blue (dabadi daba doo)

Growing up, I never thought I would be selfemployed.

I never dreamt that I would have enough courage to walk my own path. Most of the time I feel strong and as if I'm on a mission to conquer the world. But sometimes I feel kind of blue and alone...

Talking to other (selfemployed) women helps, we all sort of have the same problems, all have our ups and downs. Or struggle with clients, deadlines, sometimes kids, spouses or changes.

I also learnt that it's good to occasionally take time to reflect. (what the hell am I doing? where is this going?)

Feeling sometimes blue, happened today. :(

Tomorrow I'll lock myself in my workplace, surrounded by my own little universe. I'll probably feel okay after a few hours of thinking, dreaming and planning.

The pictures I took at Cafe Couture last week. Saskia's spring collection of vintage pieces is stunning. It's a place that is timeless, that is styl-y, and she always has a quirky choice of music playing.

I'll probably pay her a visit tomorrow too ;)

Wachten

'T is zo'n mooi koppel!

Things I´m currently working on...(2)

My collection of crying gipsy children (on paintings, not the real ones) has been groing for a while now. And now they have a comforting text written all over them. I'm ready to let them go.

Oh, and don't you just love this faded blue-greenish painting? I decided to paint the frame in a winterblue and glue neongreen letters on the painting. It's a South African text meaning that everything will be oke.

And another special one is the world famous image of a sailor with beard.
Find an interesting story about him here.

And a funny one to end this post with:

Things I´m currently working on...(1)

I tried to follow up on some good advise I've been given recently. Since I have so many different projects to do, and litlle time to do them in, I keep jumping from one thing to an other. Not doing them properly. Not giving them my proper attention, is better phrased. And offcourse not finishing any of the projects I lay my hands on. A friend told me to work in blocks. That way one week ends up being Thrift-painting-upcycling-week, and another gets to be: preparing for market season.

Last week I worked on old painings, faded, damaged or dicarded and turned them into new and better versions. This slightly boring painting with a nice frame turned into a happy pink cloud:

I was happy to have kept a  detail of the painting that I liked... the girl in the 'a'.

I'm not a great fan of pink, but the words 'choose happy' and pink seemed to belong together. And I can imagine it ending up somewhere to brighten up somebodies day.

An other one I made was one of the flower-series. Beautiful print behind glass, but... missing the wow, the yeah and the aaaahhh. It was a bit.... boring. So I made it into a cleverly gift, with the tekst ´Honey, if you were flowers, i´d pick a bunch of you´. It´s spraypainted onto the glass.

And ofcourse I made more. But I´m saving them up for next time.
